Victor Osimhen

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has officially returned to action following an arm injury. However, his comeback ended in disappointment as Galatasaray suffered a 2-0 quarter-final defeat against Genclerbirligi and crashed out of the Turkish Cup.

The highly anticipated Victor Osimhen injury return happened late in the game. He had missed four consecutive matches and several weeks of action, but he finally resumed full training just before this crucial fixture.

Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk introduced the Nigerian forward in the 78th minute to replace Renato Nhaga. Unfortunately, the defending champions were already trailing and struggling to break down the visiting team on their home ground.

Genclerbirligi took the lead early in the second half of the match. Firatcan Uzum reacted quickly to a loose ball inside the penalty box and scored the opening goal in the 51st minute.

Galatasaray pushed hard for an equalizer, but Ahmed Kutucu saw his close-range effort saved, and Wilfried Singo had a potential goal ruled out for offside.

The visitors eventually sealed the result in the 83rd minute. Adama Traore converted from close range after a rebound to make the final score 2-0.

Despite making several attacking substitutions to support Osimhen, the hosts failed to score. This unexpected defeat officially ended Galatasaray’s impressive 10-match unbeaten run in the Turkish Cup competition.

Following this Genclerbirligi vs Galatasaray upset, attention will now shift back to regular Turkish football league action. Galatasaray will face Fenerbahce in a massive clash on Sunday.

Fans and team management expect Osimhen to play a much more prominent role as the club fights to maintain its position in the tight title race.
