Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has confirmed that financial discussions are currently ongoing regarding his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Despite the pending negotiations, the Franco-Malian tactician assured fans that his primary focus remains firmly on his coaching duties and upcoming international assignments.
Chelle, whose current contract with the NFF runs until January 2027, stated that he has left the financial talks entirely in the hands of his representative.
He is instead prioritizing the team’s preparation and ongoing player assessments following Nigeria’s strong third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
In a recent conversation with Nigerian sports journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Chelle acknowledged the ongoing talks but emphasized his total commitment to the national team.
“Yes, there are financial issues to be discussed and resolved. But I leave them to my agent to handle with the federation. I want to concentrate on the job and the task at hand,” Chelle was quoted as saying on X.
The coach’s future has been a subject of intense media speculation after his successful run at the AFCON reportedly attracted interest from other national teams and European clubs.
However, Chelle is already actively preparing for Nigeria’s immediate fixtures. He revealed plans to closely monitor domestic talent in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) while also evaluating uncapped Nigerian players abroad as part of his wider talent identification strategy.
“I am coming to Nigeria to watch some NPFL games and see some players, and we have the Unity Cup in London to prepare for,” Chelle added.
The Super Eagles are set to begin their Unity Cup campaign against Zimbabwe at The Valley in London on Tuesday, May 26.
Depending on the initial results, they could potentially face either Jamaica or India in the next round of the invitational tournament.
Furthermore, Chelle will continue his squad rebuilding during high-profile international friendlies scheduled against Poland and Portugal in June, which will offer further opportunities to assess his players at a higher competitive level.
