Tinubu Appoints Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, reinforcing his administration’s push to strengthen internal security and intelligence coordination across the country.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by George Akume, through the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

According to the statement, the move reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-driven operations, improving inter-agency collaboration, and addressing evolving security threats nationwide.

Fadewa, a retired Major General, brings over three decades of experience in military service, intelligence operations, and national security strategy. His expertise spans counter-terrorism, intelligence coordination, and international security diplomacy.

He previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser from 2015 to 2021, where he played a key role in shaping Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework. During his tenure, he led the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre, a multi-agency platform designed to integrate operations among security bodies including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement, Fadewa continued contributing to national security discourse as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja. He is also the author of the monograph *“Policing and National Security in Nigeria,”* which outlines strategies for improving civil-security cooperation.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa’s appointment will enhance efforts to achieve a safer Nigeria through improved intelligence integration and proactive risk management. He also charged the retired General to deploy his experience and strategic insight in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The appointment takes immediate effect.
