Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has received the Diaspora Health and Humanity Champion Award at the 2026 National Diaspora Merit Awards, calling for sustained diaspora support to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.

The honour, presented at an event organised by Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, recognised her contributions to healthcare and humanitarian development.

Represented by Nana Shettima, the First Lady said 70 diaspora medical professionals would return under the Diaspora Health Impact Initiative to deliver medical missions, training and capacity-building programmes nationwide.

She described the award as a call for deeper collaboration and urged Nigerian health professionals abroad to invest their expertise in training the next generation.

NiDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, praised Nigerians in the diaspora for their contributions to national development through investments, knowledge transfer and humanitarian efforts.

Several other Nigerians were also honoured across categories, as the awards celebrated individuals advancing Nigeria’s global image and development.
