Nollywood actress Jumoke Odetola has announced her decision to step away from acting, saying she has entered a new phase of her life as a minister of God.

Odetola made the announcement while responding to questions from fans about her absence from the screen.

The actress disclosed the development in a post on her Instagram page on Saturday, where she asked members of the public to pray for her as she begins what she described as a new season with God.

According to Odetola, her decision followed what she described as a divine call to serve God.

“I’m now a minister of God. I am entering a new season with God. I need all the prayers in this season,” she said.

The actress added, “When God compels you, you may delay, but you cannot escape the call.”

Odetola’s announcement provides an explanation for her recent absence from acting and comes after fans had raised questions about why she had become less visible in Nollywood productions.

The actress has been active in the Nigerian film industry for several years, featuring in Yoruba and English-language productions and building a following through her work on screen and social media.

Her decision marks a significant shift from her established career in entertainment to religious ministry.

While Odetola did not provide details of the specific ministry or explain whether she intends to permanently leave acting, her statement indicates that she is currently focused on responding to what she considers a calling to serve God.

Her announcement has generated reactions from followers, with the actress specifically asking for prayers as she begins the new chapter.

The development comes amid growing instances of Nigerian entertainers publicly discussing changes in their personal priorities, careers and religious commitments.

Meanwhile, another Nollywood actress, Omowunmi Dada, has also spoken about a personal experience involving relationships.

Dada disclosed during an interview with VJ Adams that she ended a relationship after discovering that the man she was dating had begun observing Islamic practices despite initially presenting himself as a Christian.

The actress’s revelation has also generated discussion about relationships, religious identity and compatibility.

For Odetola, however, the immediate focus is her stated transition from acting to ministry.
