Lagos State representative Danielle Adewusi has emerged as Miss Universe Nigeria 2026 after winning the national pageant at a grand finale held in Lagos.

Adewusi secured the crown after competing against 19 other contestants at the event, which took place on Sunday at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island.

Her victory followed weeks of competition involving camp activities, advocacy projects, talent presentations and stage performances before the contestants reached the final stage.

The Lagos representative impressed the judging panel during the final stages of the competition before emerging as the overall winner.

Her selection means Adewusi will now take on the responsibility of representing Nigeria at the international Miss Universe event.

The 2026 edition brought together contestants representing different parts of Nigeria, with the competition combining traditional pageantry with advocacy and public presentation.

According to organisers, the final stages of the competition tested contestants through a combination of appearance, communication, confidence, talent and responses to questions.

Adewusi emerged from a Top 10 field that included representatives from Edo, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, Abuja, Abia, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi, alongside Lagos.

Her victory places her at the centre of Nigeria’s preparations for the international Miss Universe stage, where she is expected to compete against representatives from other countries.

The national pageant has increasingly provided a platform for contestants to combine beauty and public advocacy, with participants expected to communicate ideas and engage with social issues during the competition.

Adewusi’s victory also attracted attention because of her background in medicine. Several reports identified her as a doctor, adding another dimension to her profile as she moves from national pageantry to an international competition.

The new title holder will now have a period of preparation ahead of the international event, including public appearances, advocacy activities and other engagements associated with representing Nigeria.

For Adewusi, the victory represents the culmination of the national competition and the beginning of a new public role that will extend beyond the pageant stage.

She is expected to represent Nigeria at the 75th Miss Universe competition in Puerto Rico, according to reports on her victory.
