The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Adebayo Tegbe for a ministerial position following a screening session that focused on economic reforms, investment promotion, and national development priorities.
Tegbe’s confirmation came after lawmakers considered the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, which recommended his approval based on his qualifications and performance during screening.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the confirmation after a voice vote during plenary in Abuja.
During the screening exercise, Tegbe pledged to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic agenda by driving investment, improving policy implementation, and encouraging stronger collaboration between government institutions and the private sector.

Lawmakers questioned the nominee on unemployment, foreign direct investment, industrial growth, and strategies for improving Nigeria’s business environment amid ongoing economic reforms.
In his response, Tegbe said Nigeria possesses significant economic potential but requires consistent policy direction, infrastructure development, and institutional efficiency to attract sustainable investment.
He also stressed the importance of youth empowerment, digital innovation, and local production in accelerating economic growth and reducing dependence on imports.
Several senators described the nominee as experienced and capable, citing his background in public policy, business development, and economic management.
The confirmation adds to recent cabinet adjustments by the Tinubu administration as the government seeks to strengthen implementation of ongoing reforms in critical sectors of the economy.
Political observers believe the appointment signals renewed emphasis on economic coordination and investor confidence amid rising inflation, exchange rate volatility, and concerns over the cost of living.
Meanwhile, opposition lawmakers urged the incoming minister to focus on practical solutions that directly improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians rather than relying solely on policy projections.
Following his confirmation, Tegbe is expected to be sworn in by the president after completing constitutional and administrative processes.
The Senate reiterated its commitment to working with the executive arm to support policies capable of stabilising the economy, improving infrastructure, and creating employment opportunities across the country.
Analysts say the effectiveness of newly appointed ministers will likely shape public perception of the Tinubu administration’s ability to deliver on promises of economic recovery and national development in the coming years.
