Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace, have arrested a suspected kidnapper during a security operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Nigerian Army has said.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Mohamdu Surajo, was apprehended at Sabon Layi village following sustained military operations targeting criminal elements in the area.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the Nigerian Army disclosed that the suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing preliminary interrogation to support ongoing investigations.

The arrest, according to the Army, forms part of intensified efforts by security forces to dismantle kidnapping networks and restore peace across Plateau State, which has faced recurring security challenges in recent years.

Military authorities said operations in Barkin Ladi and surrounding communities have been scaled up in response to intelligence reports on the movement of criminal groups suspected to be involved in abductions and related crimes.

While details of the suspect’s alleged activities were not immediately disclosed, the Army noted that further investigations would determine his level of involvement and possible links to wider criminal networks.

Residents in parts of Barkin Ladi have continued to express concerns over sporadic incidents of violence and kidnapping, prompting increased deployment of troops under Operation Enduring Peace.

Security agencies have in recent months intensified surveillance and coordinated patrols aimed at preventing attacks, securing vulnerable communities, and restoring public confidence.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements, assuring that operations would continue until peace and stability are fully restored in the state.

It also called on residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information that could aid ongoing operations.

Authorities emphasised that collaboration between local communities and security forces remains critical in addressing security threats and ensuring lasting peace in Plateau and other affected regions.
