Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for stronger collective action to end human trafficking, urging citizens to remain vigilant and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
In a message marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on Thursday, July 30, 2026, the First Lady reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to combating human trafficking in all its forms and safeguarding the dignity and rights of every individual.

Highlighting this year’s theme, “Trapped Behind the Scam,” Tinubu warned of the rising threat of modern-day slavery driven by online scams, forced criminal activities, and transnational organised crime networks.
She stressed the urgent need to increase public awareness, strengthen preventive measures, enforce existing laws, and provide adequate support for survivors of trafficking.
According to her, addressing the growing menace requires a unified effort from government, communities, and individuals to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice while victims receive protection and rehabilitation.
Tinubu further urged Nigerians to stay alert and take responsibility in protecting those most at risk, noting that human trafficking thrives where ignorance and vulnerability persist.
“Let us remain vigilant, protect the vulnerable, and ensure that no one falls victim to exploitation,” she said.
The First Lady emphasised that collective action remains key to building a safer society where every individual can live in freedom, dignity, and hope.
She concluded by reaffirming Nigeria’s stance against the crime, declaring: “We say ‘No’ to human trafficking today.”
The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is observed annually to raise awareness on the plight of victims and promote the protection of their rights worldwide.
