Ogogo

Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has reportedly died after battling cancer.

The development was reported on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with Naija News citing an Instagram post by actress Regina Chukwu as the source of the announcement.

The reported death comes days after the actor’s family publicly disclosed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for urgent medical assistance.

Ogogo’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, had earlier taken to social media in emotional appeals, seeking help from cancer specialists, hospitals and other medical professionals capable of managing their father’s condition.

The family had said the severity of the actor’s illness became apparent only recently. They also explained that they were primarily seeking medical intervention rather than financial donations.

Kira had disclosed that the hospital treating the veteran actor could no longer administer chemotherapy, prompting the family to seek alternative specialist care.

The actor’s health crisis generated widespread concern across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with several prominent Yoruba movie stars rallying around him.

On Friday, leading actors and filmmakers gathered in Lagos for a prayer session for Ogogo, expressing solidarity with the veteran actor and praying for his recovery. Among those present were Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Antar Laniyan, Bukky Wright, Wale Elesho, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Fausat Balogun, popularly known as Madam Saje, and Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin.

The latest report of Ogogo’s death is particularly significant because his family had previously denied similar reports.

On August 18, his daughter, Lima, dismissed an earlier social media claim that the actor had died, describing it as fake news and urging the public to stop spreading unverified information.

However, fresh reports on Sunday claimed that the 66-year-old actor had eventually succumbed to the illness.

Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in the Yoruba film industry and had built a reputation over decades as an actor and filmmaker.

His reported death has triggered fresh reactions across social media, with colleagues, fans and admirers mourning the veteran performer and reflecting on his contribution to Nollywood.

At the time of publication, the report was based on social media disclosures and media reports, while further confirmation from the family or an official representative would be important given the earlier false reports surrounding the actor’s condition.
