A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has threatened to sue the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over allegations that his Abuja residence was acquired with funds belonging to Rivers State, describing the claims as defamatory and baseless.

George, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, announced his decision while responding to comments made by Wike during a media parley in Abuja, where the minister accused him of using Rivers State money to purchase a property in Maitama and described him as the “father of corruption.”

Rejecting the allegations, the elder statesman maintained that the property was legally purchased from a retired civil servant through an agent and had no connection whatsoever with Rivers State or its finances.

“My house in Abuja was bought with funds from Rivers? How? The house was built by someone else. I bought it, and it is still there,” George said.

He vowed to seek legal redress, insisting that Wike would be required to substantiate the allegations in court.

“I am going to sue him to court for all these shenanigans and thoughtlessness,” George declared.

The former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP also launched a sharp attack on the FCT minister, saying his recent remarks were unbecoming of a public office holder.

According to George, he considered it beneath his status to engage in a prolonged public exchange with Wike, whom he described as being about the same age as his first child.

He further questioned the basis of the minister’s claims, stressing that he had no political or financial relationship with Rivers State that could justify the accusation.

“It’s my house. The agent got it for me, and the owner of the house was a retired civil servant. What has that got to do with Rivers State? Am I from Rivers State? Is Rivers State a bank for me to borrow money?” he asked.

George also urged President Bola Tinubu to distance himself from political associates who, in his view, resort to insults and personal attacks in defending the administration.

He warned that such conduct could tarnish the image of the Presidency and deepen political divisions in the country.

The latest exchange followed Wike’s remarks during a media briefing with selected journalists on Tuesday, where the former Rivers State governor accused George of hypocrisy over his criticism of the judiciary.

Wike argued that George frequently accused the judiciary of corruption whenever court decisions did not favour him, insisting that the PDP leader lacked the moral authority to make such criticisms.

The minister further alleged that George’s Maitama residence was financed with Rivers State resources and challenged him to prove otherwise.

“Even the house he’s staying in at Maitama, Abuja is Rivers State’s money. I say so. Let him come out and prove me wrong,” Wike said.

He also questioned George’s claim of being a founding father and conscience of the PDP, arguing that the party had failed to secure electoral victories in Lagos State under his influence since 1999.

The latest war of words underscores the growing rift between two prominent PDP figures, with George’s planned lawsuit expected to shift the dispute from the political arena to the courts unless the matter is resolved.
