Phyna Decries Family Pressure Over Boundaries

Former Big Brother Naija winner, Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has sparked widespread reactions online after a video surfaced of her breaking down in tears during a social media livestream.

The reality television star emotionally lamented the overwhelming financial demands from her family, stating that they only care about what they can benefit from her.

During the TikTok livestream, an emotional Phyna recounted the lack of financial guidance she received after winning the reality show’s grand prize.

According to her, no one advised her on how to invest the money wisely. Instead, her family members were solely focused on extracting financial support from her. She revealed that she funded several projects for them, including drilling numerous boreholes, and constantly assisted them whenever they reached out.

However, Phyna claimed that the relationship turned sour the moment she started boundaries. “My problems began when I started saying no,” she wept, explaining that her refusal to meet every financial demand led to a severe backlash.

She alleged that her father went as far as granting a defamatory interview to Vanguard newspaper to speak negatively about her. She also shared a specific instance where her father insisted she buy an expensive type of roofing sheet, and when she opted for a more affordable alternative due to cost constraints, it caused friction.

Phyna further expressed deep hurt over how her family views her, stating that they never see anything good in her and have frequently told her that she would eventually end up pregnant and unsuccessful. She also noted that despite the recent passing of her sister, the family remained unbothered about the health and well-being of its members, focusing instead on what they could gain from her.

The viral video has elicited mixed reactions from netizens. While some social media users sympathized with her, advising her to distance herself from toxic family members and protect her mental health, others were less empathetic.

Some critics dismissed her outburst as unnecessary drama, while others questioned her past financial decisions, including her choice to undergo body enhancement surgery instead of making sustainable investments. Despite the backlash, Phyna’s emotional breakdown highlights the immense pressure often faced by reality stars juggling sudden fame with demanding family dynamics.
