President Bola Tinubu on Monday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the living standards of Nigerians, declaring that ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are delivering on the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda by easing traffic congestion, stimulating economic activities and enhancing the quality of life of residents.

The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, made the declaration while commissioning the newly rehabilitated and expanded road network stretching from the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction, alongside adjoining roads in Karu, Abuja. The event came barely one week after he inaugurated the Karu Satellite Town Water Supply Network, underscoring the administration’s intensified infrastructure drive in the area.

Tinubu described the road project as a practical demonstration of his government’s resolve to address urban congestion and bring development closer to where Nigerians live, work and commute.

“When we assumed office in 2023, we recognised that true development must reach where the people actually live, work and commute. This project stands as a clear testament to our promise to resolve urban congestion and uplift the living standards of our people. It is a direct product of our Renewed Hope Agenda in action,” he said.

According to the President, the Karu corridor, a major gateway linking the FCT with neighbouring states, had for years suffered from severe traffic congestion that reduced productivity and imposed hardship on commuters. He said the newly expanded roads would drastically reduce travel time, eliminate persistent gridlocks and create an enabling environment for businesses to flourish.

Tinubu added that the project also prioritises public safety through the installation of modern solar-powered streetlights across the entire corridor, improving visibility for motorists while helping to reduce crime at night.

He attributed the rapid transformation witnessed across Abuja to the dedication and focused leadership of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, commending him for driving the implementation of the administration’s urban renewal agenda.

The President also praised the contractor, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, for delivering the project on schedule and to high standards, saying the company had demonstrated the capacity of indigenous firms to execute infrastructure projects that meet international benchmarks.

He urged traditional rulers, youth groups, market women and residents of Karu to protect the newly completed infrastructure by preventing vandalism, indiscriminate refuse disposal and activities capable of damaging drainage systems.

Earlier, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike described President Tinubu’s support for the FCT Administration as unprecedented, noting that residents have continued to witness remarkable improvements in infrastructure and public services under the current administration.

He assured residents that the pace of development would be sustained, while commending the contractor for its commitment to delivering quality infrastructure in line with the Federal Government’s development agenda.

Also speaking, the FCT Head of Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo Nancy, expressed appreciation to the President for his unwavering commitment to infrastructure renewal and national development.

Presenting an overview of the project, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Hon. Zulkiflu Abdulkadir, said the road rehabilitation included the construction of drainage systems, pedestrian walkways and installation of solar-powered streetlights. He noted that the project would significantly improve mobility, boost commercial activities and enhance the livelihoods of residents in Karu, the FCT’s most populated satellite town.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by lawmakers, senior government officials, traditional rulers and other stakeholders from across the Federal Capital Territory.
