Family members, friends, colleagues, and Nollywood actors on Thursday gathered in Arochukwu, Abia State, as the remains of late actor Alexx Ekubo were received ahead of his burial.
The body of the actor reportedly arrived in his hometown in a convoy and made a brief stop at the palace of the Eze Arochukwu before proceeding to his family compound, where final rites are expected to be observed.
Ekubo, who died on May 11 at the age of 40, is scheduled to be laid to rest on June 18 in Arochukwu, in line with funeral arrangements released earlier by his family.
Residents of the community joined members of the Nigerian film industry and other sympathisers in a solemn procession through parts of the village to honour the late actor’s memory.

Many mourners wore customised T-shirts bearing Ekubo’s image, while others carried framed photographs as they paid tribute during the emotional gathering. The atmosphere in the community was described as a mix of grief and celebration of life, as supporters reflected on his contributions to Nollywood.
Several colleagues in the entertainment industry were also present, describing him as a vibrant and talented actor whose work left a lasting impression on audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
Traditional rites and cultural observances are expected to continue ahead of the final burial ceremony, which is drawing significant attention within the entertainment sector and Ekubo’s hometown community.
Family sources said arrangements have been made to ensure a dignified farewell in line with his wishes and cultural traditions of Arochukwu.
The late actor was widely known for his roles in romantic dramas and television productions, where he built a strong fan base over the years.
As preparations continue, security presence has been observed around key areas in the community to manage the influx of visitors and ensure a peaceful burial ceremony.
