Former Super Eagles captain and Arsenal legend Kanu Nwankwo has openly expressed his delight following Arsenal’s historic English Premier League title victory, a triumph that officially ends a grueling 22 year wait for the North London club.
The Gunners were confirmed as the champions of the 2025/26 season on Tuesday night after their closest title rivals, Manchester City, played out a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Taking to the social media platform X, Kanu, who was a member of Arsene Wenger’s famous Invincibles squad that last won the league during the 2003/04 season, celebrated the sheer resilience of Mikel Arteta’s team.
“Arsenal forever. The Gunners worked so hard for this. Difficult but they fought. Very well deserved. Come on you Gunners,” the Nigerian football icon posted, alongside a nostalgic photograph of himself holding the Premier League trophy.
During the historic Invincibles campaign, Kanu made 10 league appearances, contributing a goal and four assists. Across his entire stint at Highbury after joining the club in 1999, he recorded 197 appearances, scoring 44 goals and providing 38 assists.
Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh also commended the team’s incredible evolution under manager Mikel Arteta.
Oliseh attributed the long awaited triumph to Arteta’s strict discipline and a total tactical overhaul, praising the strategic employment of specialist coaches to maximize goal scoring opportunities from set pieces.
Arsenal will officially be presented with the Premier League trophy this Sunday at Selhurst Park during their final game of the season against Crystal Palace.
