Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have rescued six abducted persons, including two infants, during ongoing search-and-rescue operations in Borno State.

The military said the victims were freed at Talakawa in Chibok Local Government Area following sustained air and ground offensives backed by credible intelligence.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, confirmed that the rescued individuals comprised four adults and two infants who were abducted in Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area in May.

He described the development as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to recover abducted victims, including students of Government Day Secondary School, Lassa.

According to the military, the operation forms part of a broader campaign targeting insurgent hideouts and criminal enclaves across the North-East, with troops intensifying coordinated land and aerial assaults to weaken armed groups operating in the region.

Goni noted that the success was made possible through actionable intelligence and sustained pressure on insurgents, which has continued to yield positive results in recent weeks.

The rescued victims have since been taken to a secure location where they are receiving medical attention and necessary support before reunification with their families.

Military authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safe return of all abducted persons and restoring normalcy to affected communities.

Communities in parts of Borno State have faced persistent attacks and abductions over the years, prompting continuous military operations under Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle insurgent networks and secure vulnerable areas.

Security analysts say such rescue missions, though challenging, are critical in weakening the operational capacity of insurgent groups and boosting public confidence in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.

The military urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid further operations.

It also assured that troops would sustain the momentum until all remaining abductees are rescued and peace is fully restored in the region.

Operation HADIN KAI remains the Nigerian military’s flagship counter-insurgency mission in the North-East, focusing on neutralising terrorists, securing communities, and facilitating the safe return of displaced persons.

Authorities say the latest rescue underscores renewed determination by security forces to achieve lasting stability in the region despite ongoing challenges.
