The Federal Government has announced plans to revive Nigeria’s textile industry and operationalise the long-dormant Ajaokuta Steel Company as part of efforts to boost industrial growth and economic diversification.
Officials disclosed that discussions are ongoing with investors and stakeholders to rehabilitate key facilities, attract funding, and restore production capacity in the sectors.
The initiative is aimed at creating jobs, reducing import dependence, and strengthening the country’s manufacturing base.
Government sources said the revival plan includes policy support, infrastructure upgrades, and incentives designed to encourage private sector participation.

The move is also expected to enhance value chains across multiple industries, including construction, agriculture, and garment production.
Experts believe that a functional Ajaokuta Steel Company could significantly impact Nigeria’s industrial output, while revitalised textile mills could generate employment and support small-scale enterprises.
The government reiterated its commitment to industrialisation, noting that sustained investment and reforms would drive long-term economic growth.
