Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria has stated that the country remains one of the cheapest markets globally for mobile data, despite ongoing public concerns over affordability and rising cost of living.

The company made the assertion while responding to debates around data pricing in the telecommunications sector, noting that Nigeria’s cost per gigabyte remains significantly lower than global and regional averages.

MTN officials explained that intense competition within the Nigerian telecoms industry, combined with regulatory frameworks, has helped keep data prices relatively low compared to other markets.

However, they acknowledged that affordability remains a concern for many consumers due to economic pressures, inflation, and declining purchasing power.

The telecom operator also highlighted continued investment in network expansion, 5G rollout, and infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving speed, coverage, and reliability of internet services.

Industry analysts note that while Nigeria’s data prices may be low in dollar terms, income levels and currency fluctuations affect perceived affordability for average users.
