Victor Osimhen

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen is the primary target on a five-man shortlist for Manchester United as the club prepares for the summer transfer window.

Internal discussions at Old Trafford label the Galatasaray star a “dream” acquisition and a potentially “transformative” addition to the squad led by Michael Carrick.

According to reports from Caught Offside, United primarily want to strengthen their midfield, left-back, and wide positions. However, the uncertain future of Joshua Zirkzee prompts the club to consider a new striker.

The 27-year-old Osimhen has displayed sensational form since his move from Napoli to Galatasaray.

He scored 59 goals in 74 appearances across two seasons and played a crucial role in the club’s back-to-back Süper Lig championship titles.

Observers frequently describe the Nigeria international as the best striker in the world, and he currently attracts interest from several elite European clubs.

Currently, Benjamin Sesko operates as United’s first-choice striker. The club remains committed to his development after he scored 11 goals in his debut season.

Yet, officials at Old Trafford believe Osimhen would complement Sesko rather than replace him. The club views Osimhen as a player who can provide fierce competition and serve as a mentor to the younger forward.

Financial demands could pose a significant obstacle. Reports indicate Galatasaray will demand at least €100m, or about £87m, to part with the player.

The Turkish side requires this fee due to their substantial initial investment to secure him permanently.

However, Manchester United’s return to Champions League football should bolster their negotiation position in the market.

Fenerbahçe executive Mahmut Uslu further emphasized Osimhen’s elite status in European football this week. Uslu admitted that any top club would desire the Nigerian, while he also conceded the impossibility of a cross-city transfer from Galatasaray.

“Who wouldn’t want a player like Osimhen? But he won’t come to us. His destinations are clear,” Uslu stated to HT Spor.

Osimhen remains under contract with Galatasaray until June 2029.
