A professional relationship between Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham and her former protégé, Abike Shugaa, has ended in controversy following fresh claims and counterclaims about their association.
In a YouTube video released on Friday, which has gained over 100,000 views, Abike Shugaa, whose real name is Pelumi Olawuni, recounted her journey into Nollywood, saying that she was speaking out after more than three years of silence.
She revealed that before gaining recognition in the film industry, she was involved in several small businesses, including thrift trading, television presenting, and fashion design, adding that her online content later brought her into contact with Abraham.

Abike stated that a viral post about her sewing machine attracted Abraham’s attention, leading to initial financial support of N50,000, although she clarified that she personally purchased the machine.
She added that she later met Abraham in 2021 and went on to secure acting roles in productions such as Ago Alago and Ijakumo, which marked her entry into mainstream Nollywood.
According to her, tensions began to rise after she engaged with other industry figures, which she claimed was interpreted as disloyalty and led to a breakdown in their relationship.
Abike also alleged that she was sidelined in some projects and that certain scenes she featured in were removed without prior notice, despite her participation in promotional activities.
Reacting, Toyin Abraham declined to engage in a detailed public dispute, describing Abike as someone she still regards like a daughter.
“I have made up my mind never to say anything because I see her as a daughter. May God bless everyone of us,” she said.
