The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old woman, Adeoye Taiwo, for allegedly pouring hot water on her 13-year-old niece in a disturbing incident that occurred in the Odomogun area of Ijebu Imusin.

The victim, identified as Adeoye Modinat, is reportedly the daughter of the suspect’s twin sister and had been living under her care at the time of the incident. The alleged assault, which took place on April 13, 2026, has left the minor with severe burn injuries, raising concerns over child abuse and domestic violence within the community.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the suspect accused the teenager of engaging in inappropriate behaviour, specifically alleging that she had been associating with men. Acting on this suspicion, Taiwo allegedly instructed her own daughter to boil water, which she then poured on the victim as a form of punishment.

The incident was reported to the police at about 3:30 p.m., prompting an immediate response from detectives attached to the division. Upon arrival at the scene, officers rescued the injured girl and ensured her swift transfer to a medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment for her injuries.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the suspect was promptly apprehended following the report. He noted that the police acted decisively to secure the safety of the victim and initiate legal proceedings against the suspect.

“The incident was reported to the police, and detectives swiftly moved to the location. The victim was rescued and taken to a hospital for urgent medical attention, while the suspect was arrested and charged to court,” Babaseyi said.
Following her arrest, Taiwo was arraigned before the Ijebu Mushin Magistrate Court, where she was granted bail in the sum of N3 million. However, she was subsequently remanded at the Igbeba Correctional Centre after failing to meet the bail conditions.

Authorities have condemned the incident, describing it as a serious violation of the rights and safety of a child. The police reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society, particularly minors, from abuse and exploitation.

Babaseyi emphasized that the command maintains zero tolerance for all forms of violence against children and urged members of the public to report any suspected cases of abuse promptly. He added that safeguarding children requires collective responsibility and vigilance within communities.

Meanwhile, the condition of the victim remains under medical supervision, with efforts ongoing to ensure her recovery. The case has also sparked renewed calls for stricter enforcement of child protection laws and greater awareness about the dangers of domestic violence.

The police assured that justice would be pursued diligently and that the suspect would face the full weight of the law if found guilty.
