Dayo Amusa

Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has criticised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, over his response to questions about how he intends to address Nigeria’s electricity and security challenges if elected president.

The actress expressed her views on social media after watching Obi’s recent interview with broadcaster Rufai Oseni, where the former Anambra State governor was asked to explain in detail how he planned to deliver on key campaign promises.

During the interview, Obi declined to provide specific operational details when pressed on how he would tackle persistent issues such as power supply and insecurity, saying he preferred to focus on outlining his broader vision.

However, Amusa reacted to the exchange by arguing that individuals seeking public office should be able to clearly explain not only what they intend to do, but also how they plan to achieve it.

She said leadership requires more than general promises and expectations, stressing that Nigerians deserve clarity on practical steps and implementation strategies from political candidates.

According to her, voters should not be left guessing about how campaign commitments will be executed, especially on critical issues affecting daily life such as electricity shortages and security concerns.

The actress’ comments quickly generated reactions across social media, with users divided over her position. While some agreed that political candidates should provide detailed policy explanations, others defended Obi’s approach, arguing that interviews often focus on high-level messaging rather than technical policy breakdowns.

The debate reflects ongoing public scrutiny of political communication styles ahead of future elections, where candidates are frequently questioned on how they intend to address long-standing national challenges.

Obi, who has consistently campaigned on promises of economic reform, improved governance, and infrastructure development, has often emphasised the need for systemic change rather than detailed policy breakdowns during media engagements.

Amusa, known for her outspoken views on social and political issues, has previously used her social media platforms to comment on national developments, drawing both support and criticism from followers.

The latest exchange adds to growing conversations around accountability, transparency, and communication expectations for political leaders in Nigeria, particularly in the lead-up to election cycles.

As discussions continue online, observers note that public reactions from entertainers and influencers are increasingly shaping political discourse in the country.
