Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Enugu State have rescued a kidnap victim and arrested three suspected kidnappers during a coordinated security operation, authorities said on Wednesday.
The victim, whose identity was withheld for security reasons, was rescued from a forest hideout on the outskirts of Enugu following intelligence-driven efforts by security operatives. Police also recovered weapons and other items believed to have been used by the suspects in carrying out criminal activities.
According to the state police command, the victim was abducted last week while returning home from work and was subsequently taken to an unknown location by the kidnappers.
Security sources disclosed that investigators launched an extensive search operation after receiving information from residents and tracking movements linked to the suspects.

The breakthrough came when police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected hideout in a remote forest community where the victim was allegedly being held.
During the operation, officers engaged members of the gang, leading to the arrest of three suspects, while others reportedly escaped into nearby bushes.
The rescued victim was found unharmed and has since been reunited with family members after undergoing medical examination and debriefing by security officials.
Police spokespersons said items recovered from the suspects included locally made firearms, ammunition, mobile phones and other materials believed to be connected to the kidnapping operation.
Commissioner of Police in the state commended the officers involved in the rescue mission, describing the operation as evidence of the command’s determination to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely information that could assist in preventing criminal activities.
“The success of this operation was made possible through intelligence sharing and cooperation from members of the public,” the police chief said.
Residents of the affected community welcomed the rescue and praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies. Many described the development as a relief amid growing concerns over incidents of kidnapping in parts of the state.
Community leaders called for sustained security patrols and surveillance to prevent criminals from using forests and remote settlements as operational bases.
Security analysts noted that kidnapping for ransom remains a significant challenge in several parts of the country despite ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle criminal networks.
The police command said investigations are continuing to identify and arrest other members of the gang who escaped during the operation.
Authorities also assured residents that intensified security operations would continue across the state as part of broader efforts to improve public safety and restore confidence among citizens.
