President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has flagged off the EKZ project and commissioned multiple infrastructure works, warning that diversion of public funds will no longer be tolerated as the government intensifies transparency-driven delivery across key economic zones.
At the ceremony, Tinubu said the EKZ initiative is central to unlocking industrial growth, improving logistics, and attracting investment. He noted that the newly commissioned roads, utilities, and support facilities would reduce bottlenecks and enhance competitiveness for businesses operating within the zone.
The President issued a stern warning to public officials and contractors, stating that strict oversight mechanisms have been put in place to track funds and project execution. “Every naira allocated must be accounted for. There will be consequences for abuse,” he said.
Officials disclosed that the projects commissioned include access roads, power infrastructure, and water systems designed to support manufacturing clusters. The EKZ is expected to create jobs, stimulate exports, and deepen value addition in priority sectors.

Tinubu directed anti-corruption agencies and project monitoring units to work closely, ensuring compliance with procurement rules and timely delivery. He also called for private sector participation, assuring investors of policy stability and improved ease of doing business within the zone.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment said the EKZ would serve as a model for similar zones nationwide, with integrated planning and performance benchmarks. He added that incentives are being streamlined to attract both local and foreign investors.
Community leaders welcomed the development, expressing optimism about employment opportunities and improved infrastructure. However, they urged sustained engagement to address environmental and social concerns.
Tinubu reiterated that infrastructure remains a cornerstone of his economic agenda, linking it to broader goals of diversification and inclusive growth. He said the government would continue to prioritise projects with measurable impact, while maintaining zero tolerance for corruption in execution.
