President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday said the nationwide primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have demonstrated strong internal democracy and strengthened grassroots political participation across the country.
Speaking after casting his vote at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos, the President said the exercise reflected a transparent and inclusive democratic process, noting that party members were actively involved at all levels.
Tinubu, who arrived at the venue with the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, APC state chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, and former Finance Minister Wale Edun, among other party leaders.
He commended party members for their orderly conduct and enthusiasm, describing the process as peaceful and well organised. According to him, the progression from ward to local government congresses, including delegate accreditation and validation, was handled effectively nationwide.
The President expressed satisfaction with the role played by governors in coordinating the exercise in their states, adding that the conduct of the primaries could be rated highly in democratic standards.
Tinubu also praised electoral officials, party leaders and security agencies for ensuring a credible and peaceful process, urging Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions and national unity.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance, democratic ideals and policies aimed at improving citizens’ welfare while strengthening political stability.
The statement was issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on May 23, 2026.
