The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, has cautioned graduating students of the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, against the careless use of social media, warning that the disclosure of unauthorised information could compromise military operations and threaten national security.

The warning was delivered during the 68th Passing Out Parade of the Nigerian Military School held on Saturday in Zaria, Kaduna State, where the Army Chief urged the graduating students to uphold discipline, professionalism and loyalty as they begin the next phase of their military careers.

According to a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s official X account, Shaibu was represented at the ceremony by the Commander, Infantry Corps, Major General GM Mutkut.

Addressing the graduating cadets, the Army Chief reminded them that their conduct, both online and offline, would reflect the values of the Nigerian Military School and the Armed Forces.

“You must be cautious in your use of social media and avoid disclosing unauthorised information that could compromise military operations or national security,” he warned.

Shaibu also urged the graduates to remain committed to the highest standards of discipline and professionalism while carrying out future assignments, stressing the need for strict adherence to human rights principles, rules of engagement and standard operating procedures during military operations.

“You are expected to competently operate within the stipulations of the tenets of human rights and strictly adhere to the rules of engagement and standard operating procedures in the conduct of operations,” he said.

Congratulating the graduating students, the Army Chief described the successful completion of six years of intensive academic and military training as a significant milestone.

He noted that the rigorous programme was designed to produce disciplined, resilient and patriotic young men equipped with the knowledge, skills and character required to serve Nigeria with integrity and excellence.

Shaibu further encouraged the graduates to take advantage of career development opportunities within the Nigerian Army, including sponsorship programmes that enable personnel to pursue higher education in accredited universities and tertiary institutions across the country.

“The rich foundation you have received here is your greatest advantage as you step into the next phase of your lives,” he said, urging the graduates to continually improve themselves through education and professional training.

The Army Chief also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of military personnel and strengthening the operational capacity of the Armed Forces.

He urged the newly graduated students to remain worthy ambassadors of the Nigerian Military School by demonstrating courage, discipline and dedication in every assignment.

The 68th Passing Out Parade marked the graduation of another set of students from the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, after completing six years of combined military and academic training, preparing them for future service in the nation’s Armed Forces.
