The Federal Government is set to commence repair works on the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in a move aimed at addressing defects on the critical transport corridor.

The Federal Ministry of Works said the intervention would focus on the replacement of damaged expansion joints on the bridge.

According to the ministry, the repair is expected to last about two weeks and will be executed in phases to minimise disruption to traffic on the busy expressway.

During the first phase, one section of the bridge will be closed to traffic to allow contractors to carry out the repairs, while motorists will use the available lane under controlled traffic management.

The ministry is expected to switch construction activities to the other section after one week, allowing work to progress while maintaining traffic movement along the corridor.

The Kara Bridge is a major transport link connecting Lagos with Ogun State and other parts of the South-West and serves as a key route for commuters, commercial vehicles and long-distance travellers.

The planned repairs are therefore expected to have significant implications for traffic flow, particularly during peak travel periods.

The Federal Government has advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead of the commencement of the work and consider alternative routes where possible.

Motorists travelling between Lagos and Ogun State have also been urged to cooperate with traffic management officials and obey temporary traffic arrangements around the construction zone.

The intervention is part of efforts to improve the condition and safety of critical infrastructure along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest inter-state road corridors.
