Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charly Boy has spoken about how he came to accept the sexual orientation of his two daughters after both women told him they were lesbians.

Charly Boy, in an interview with Punch, said his younger daughter was the first to come out to him, while her elder sister later disclosed that she was also a lesbian.

The entertainer said the revelations initially left him struggling to understand and accept the situation, particularly because of the different stages of life his daughters were at when they came out.

According to him, his initial concern was partly influenced by the fact that his younger daughter had not had children, while her older sister had already established a family and started having children.

He said his perspective eventually changed as he came to recognise that his daughters were adults capable of making decisions about their personal lives.

Charly Boy said his older daughter, who he described as a mother of six and a great-grandmother, had built her own family and should be allowed to make her choices.

The entertainer said his role as a father was no longer to dictate how his daughters should live but to offer them love, support and advice.

He explained that accepting their decisions did not mean abandoning his responsibilities as a parent, stressing the importance of maintaining a relationship with his children despite differences in their personal choices.

Charly Boy’s comments highlight the challenges some families face when adult children disclose aspects of their sexuality that may conflict with the expectations or beliefs of their parents.

The entertainer said his initial reaction was shaped by concerns about family, children and the future, but that his understanding evolved over time.

Rather than allowing the issue to permanently affect his relationship with his daughters, he said he chose to remain supportive while allowing them to make decisions about their own lives.

Charly Boy has remained one of Nigeria’s most outspoken entertainers and social commentators, often using his public platform to discuss issues relating to family, society, politics and culture.

His latest comments offer a personal account of how his views changed after both daughters disclosed their sexual orientation.

He said he now prioritises love, support and guidance in his relationship with them, while respecting their right to make personal decisions as adults.
