A 55-year-old man abducted in Ondo State has escaped from his kidnappers’ hideout, leading to the arrest of two suspected members of the criminal gang.

The victim, identified as Idowu Alade, was abducted at Aroge Camp, via Idoani, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, on August 21.

Police said Alade was attacked at about 6pm after leaving his residence to buy a network recharge card but failed to return home.

His disappearance prompted members of the community to begin searching for him the following morning.

Police operatives, working with the Amotekun Corps, Ose Bravers Vigilante Group and local hunters, subsequently launched a search operation in the surrounding bush.

The breakthrough came when Alade escaped from the kidnappers’ hideout at about 4am on August 23 while his captors were reportedly asleep.

He trekked through the forest before emerging around the Ifira area, where security operatives located and secured him.

The victim was subsequently taken for medical attention after reportedly sustaining injuries while in captivity.

Following his escape, security agencies placed the area on red alert and intensified efforts to track the kidnappers.

Two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Usman Shaibu and 27-year-old Sanni Musa, were later intercepted by a patrol team from the Isua Division.

The suspects were reportedly arrested at about 2:15pm on August 23.

Police said Alade positively identified the two men during a formal identification process.

The victim’s mobile phone was also recovered from the suspects, while police said the men provided information about other individuals allegedly connected to the kidnapping operation.

The Ondo State Police Command said investigations were continuing to identify and arrest other members of the network.

The incident highlights the continued security challenges in parts of Ondo State, particularly areas with extensive forest corridors that criminals can use as hideouts.

Police authorities have appealed to residents to provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing kidnappings and other crimes.

The command also assured residents that anyone found culpable in connection with the abduction would face prosecution.

For Alade and his family, his escape brought an end to several days of uncertainty, while his account of the hideout is expected to assist investigators in efforts to dismantle the wider criminal network.
