After about 25 years without a substantive traditional ruler, Oke-Ako in Ekiti State has finally filled its vacant traditional stool, bringing an end to a prolonged chapter in the community’s history.

The development marks an important moment for residents who have lived through decades of uncertainty over the traditional leadership of the community.

Traditional institutions remain influential in many Nigerian communities, particularly in matters involving culture, communal identity, dispute resolution and grassroots mobilisation.

The prolonged vacancy in Oke-Ako therefore meant that the community operated for years without the presence of a substantive monarch occupying the stool.

The new monarch will face the task of bringing different interests together while preserving the customs and identity of Oke-Ako.
