The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC,  has arrested a suspect accused of posing as a lawyer and forging official seals of the Nigerian Bar Association in a growing fraud scandal.

In a statement on Wednesday, the anti-graft agency said the suspect was apprehended following intelligence reports linking him to multiple cases of legal impersonation and document forgery.

Investigators allege that the suspect used fake NBA seals to authenticate legal documents, thereby deceiving clients and institutions. The scheme reportedly enabled him to operate undetected for an extended period.

“The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the EFCC said, adding that efforts are ongoing to identify possible accomplices.

Legal experts have expressed concern over the incident, warning that such activities undermine the integrity of the justice system. “The use of forged seals is a serious offense that can erode public trust in legal processes,” said Abuja-based lawyer Chinedu Okeke.

The Nigerian Bar Association has also condemned the act, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding professional standards and working with law enforcement agencies to prevent similar cases.

Authorities urged the public to verify the credentials of legal practitioners before engaging their services, emphasizing that vigilance is key to curbing fraud.

The arrest highlights the EFCC’s continued crackdown on financial crimes and professional misconduct across the country.
