President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that all abducted children across the country will be rescued, directing security agencies to intensify coordinated operations while unveiling new measures to strengthen school safety in high-risk areas.

In a statement marking Children’s Day, the President said the Federal Government would not relent until children held captive in parts of Oyo and Borno states are safely returned to their families. He emphasized that the pain of affected parents would not be reduced to mere ceremonial acknowledgement, pledging sustained action against perpetrators of abduction.

Tinubu disclosed that all relevant security agencies have been mandated to adopt intelligence-led strategies aimed at ensuring the safe recovery of kidnapped children and other vulnerable citizens. According to him, these operations will prioritize precision and coordination to avoid further harm to victims.

Highlighting immediate preventive steps, the President ordered the strengthening of school protection systems nationwide. This includes updated vulnerability mapping of schools, improved collaboration between state authorities and security commands, rapid response mechanisms linking schools with local security units, and enhanced community-based early warning systems.

He further directed the Federal Ministry of Education to work closely with state governments to fully implement the Safe Schools framework. The directive, he noted, requires clear accountability, defined responsibilities, and strict timelines to ensure that schools in vulnerable areas are adequately prepared to respond to threats.

Beyond rescue efforts, Tinubu stressed the importance of post-trauma care for children affected by abduction and violence. He ordered relevant ministries and agencies to provide comprehensive reintegration support, including medical care, psychological counselling, and access to education, noting that recovery must extend beyond physical rescue.

The President also called on parents, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious institutions, and civil society groups to play active roles in safeguarding children. He warned that failure to report suspicious activities around schools could expose children to danger, while timely sharing of information could prevent attacks.

Tinubu reiterated that protecting children is a shared responsibility, urging stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies to stop threats before they occur.

While celebrating Nigerian children for their resilience, creativity, and potential, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in education, healthcare, nutrition, and social protection. He stressed that every Nigerian child deserves a safe environment to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams without fear.
