Governor Uba Sani has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against what he described as attempts by opposition elements to undermine the country’s democracy, as the Presidential Media Team commended ongoing infrastructure projects in Kaduna State.
The warning came as the team, led by Bayo Onanuga, toured federal and state government projects across the North-West, praising the development strides under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Kaduna State government.
Key projects inspected include the 35-kilometre Gadan-Gayam, Gwaraji, and Kujama roads connecting 76 farming communities across Igabi, Kajuru, and Chikun Local Government Areas, a multi-billion-naira Skills Acquisition Centre, and the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital.
Speaking at a state banquet attended by over 50 journalists, Onanuga described the transformation in Kaduna as evidence of improved funding to subnational governments driven by the Tinubu administration’s fiscal reforms. He said the scale of infrastructure development across the state reflects effective utilisation of increased allocations.
According to him, Kaduna’s progress in road construction, urban renewal, and public service delivery demonstrates how enhanced funding is translating into tangible benefits for citizens. He commended Governor Sani for deploying resources strategically to address longstanding infrastructure deficits.
“Some communities in Kaduna went without roads for two decades. Governor Uba Sani is now opening up the state and developing every part of it,” Onanuga said, adding that he would brief the President on the visible impact of federal allocations in the state.
Governor Sani, in his remarks, cautioned Nigerians against “self-serving narratives” by individuals and groups seeking political power without contributing to national development. He stressed that safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy requires collective responsibility and adherence to constitutional governance.
Reflecting on his past as a pro-democracy activist, the governor recalled the sacrifices made by journalists and activists during military rule, citing figures such as Bagauda Kaltho and Dele Giwa who lost their lives in the struggle.
“We fought for this democracy. Some of us were detained, and many journalists paid the ultimate price. Nigerians must not allow those sacrifices to be in vain,” he said.
The governor also commended members of the Presidential Media Team, including Sunday Dare and Tunde Rahman, for their role in promoting democratic values and communicating government achievements.
The inspection tour, initiated by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors under the leadership of Hope Uzodimma, also featured officials from the Federal Ministries of Transportation and Works.
As part of the visit, the team inspected the Kaduna-Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi railway project. The Project Desk Officer at the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Abdullahi Yakubu, disclosed that the Kaduna-to-Kano section has reached 68 per cent completion.
He noted that significant work remains on a major bridge linking Rigasa to the Afaka-Mando axis, a critical segment for seamless rail connectivity between Kaduna and Zaria. The 203-kilometre rail line is expected to be completed by December 2026.
The tour continues across the region as the federal government intensifies efforts to showcase ongoing infrastructure development and strengthen public awareness of its economic and social impact.
