Bukky Wright

Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has revealed that she stepped away from acting and relocated abroad years ago to focus on raising her children, saying she has no regrets about putting her family ahead of her flourishing career.

The 59-year-old actress made the disclosure during an interview on The Morayo Show, where she reflected on her decision to quietly leave Nigeria at the peak of her acting career without informing her fans.

According to Wright, motherhood became her priority after relocating overseas, explaining that her children needed her presence more than the demands of the entertainment industry.

She admitted that her sudden disappearance from the screen left many fans wondering about her whereabouts and expressed regret for not properly informing those who had supported her throughout her career.

“I left without telling anyone, and I want to apologise to my fans,” she said, noting that the decision was driven by family responsibilities rather than a desire to abandon acting.

The actress explained that raising her sons during their formative years required her full attention, adding that she never regretted sacrificing her career to be with them.

Wright stressed that while acting had always been her passion, her children came first, and she believed they deserved to have their mother by their side during an important stage of their lives.

After spending several years away from the spotlight, the actress made her return to Nollywood in January 2025 with her role in Something About the Briggs, marking a new chapter in her career.

Her comeback was warmly received by movie lovers, many of whom welcomed one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actresses back to the screen after a lengthy absence.

Encouraged by the positive reception, Wright disclosed that she is also planning to revive her 2008 movie Omotara Johnson, following repeated requests from fans who have continued to express interest in the film.

She said the enduring popularity of the movie convinced her that audiences still appreciate classic Nollywood productions and deserve to see the story brought back in a refreshed format.

Widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s finest actresses, Bukky Wright built a successful career through memorable performances in Yoruba and English-language films, earning a loyal fan base across Nigeria and beyond.

Her return has been welcomed by industry stakeholders, who believe her experience and versatility will continue to enrich the Nigerian film industry.

As she resumes acting, Wright says she remains grateful to fans who stood by her during her years away from the screen and looks forward to reconnecting with audiences through new projects while preserving the legacy she has built over decades in Nollywood.
