The Kogi State Government has confirmed the rescue of four persons abducted during a recent attack on an unauthorised examination centre in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area, following a coordinated security operation.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, attributing the success to swift directives issued by Governor Usman Ododo shortly after the incident.

Fanwo said the governor immediately ordered the State Security Adviser, Jerry Omodara (retd.), to lead a joint rescue mission involving multiple security agencies. These included the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, as well as local vigilante groups.

According to the statement, security operatives launched an intensive search-and-rescue operation, combing nearby forests where the victims were believed to have been held. The operation was strengthened by coordinated intelligence and the deployment of armed personnel to strategic locations within the area.

“Shortly after the kidnapping incident, the governor directed the State Security Adviser to coordinate the rescue operation,” Fanwo said. “Security agencies stormed the forest to ensure the victims were rescued safely.”

He added that while inspecting newly procured Armoured Personnel Carriers aimed at boosting the state’s fight against crime, Governor Ododo had reassured residents that all efforts were being intensified to secure the victims’ release.

Within hours of that assurance, the victims regained their freedom. Authorities explained that sustained pressure from security forces and the saturation of the forest forced the abductors to abandon their captives and flee the area.

The government did not disclose whether any arrests were made during the operation but reiterated its commitment to tracking down those responsible for the attack.

Fanwo commended the collaboration among security agencies and local operatives, describing it as a testament to the effectiveness of joint operations in tackling insecurity across the state.

He further reassured residents of the government’s determination to safeguard lives and property, warning criminal elements to steer clear of Kogi State or face decisive action.

The attack on the examination centre had raised concerns among residents about security in the area, particularly around unapproved education centres. Authorities have since urged the public to patronise only authorised institutions while security measures are being strengthened across vulnerable communities.
