Samuel Chukwueze

Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze appears ready to fight for his place in the AC Milan squad. The former Manchester United boss, Ruben Amorim, just assumed his duties as the new head coach of the Italian club.

Despite recent speculation about a permanent transfer, Chukwueze wants to remain at San Siro and prove his worth.

Milan recently rejected a €15m bid from Turkish club Trabzonspor for the winger. Chukwueze himself showed no interest in the move. He just returned to Italy after a loan spell at Fulham.

The Premier League side chose not to activate the €26m purchase option in his contract. At Fulham, Chukwueze played 23 league games, scored three goals, and created four assists. He formed a strong bond with his fellow Nigerians, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.

Amorim will now determine the transfer strategy for the rest of the summer. The club already spent heavily at the start of the window. Football Italia reported on the situation.

“Milan want at least three more signings after committing over €100m on Gila and Ramos. Milan have a full agreement in place to sign centre-back Mario Gila from Lazio in a package worth €30m, including bonuses,” the report stated.

The Rossoneri still plan to recruit more players and find a replacement for Rafael Leao. Notably, the club did not list Chukwueze among the potential departures.

“It is expected that Milan will part company with some of their current first-team stars this window, Rafael Leao among them, but according to Wednesday’s reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri are already thinking about potential new attacking midfielders to bring in,” the publication added.

Genk teenager Konstantinos Karetsas is currently the top target to replace Leao. However, the Greece international will require a massive financial investment.

The club also wants another left back and an additional centre back. While Amorim has not made his exact plans for Chukwueze clear, a solid pre season performance could revive the career of the Nigerian star ahead of his international commitments.
