Iyabo Ojo

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up again about her failed marriage, saying she believes the relationship should have ended much earlier than it eventually did.

Ojo made the disclosure while reflecting on her previous marriage to Ademidun Ojo and the circumstances that eventually led to their separation.

The actress said she had taken her time before leaving the relationship, adding that, in hindsight, she believes the marriage should have ended on her wedding night.

“The marriage should have ended long before; it should have ended on my wedding night,” she said during an appearance on Morayo Afolabi-Brown’s programme, The Morayo Show.

Ojo married Ademidun Ojo in 1999 at the age of 21. The union produced two children, Festus and Priscilla, before the couple separated in 2001.

Reflecting on her decision to remain in the relationship for some time, the actress said she was not thinking solely about herself but was concerned about the future and wellbeing of her children.

She explained that leaving eventually became necessary for her peace of mind and for the sake of her children.

According to her, she was grateful that she did not remain in the marriage because she believed staying could have affected the future her children eventually built.

Ojo’s comments revisit a difficult chapter of her life that she has previously discussed publicly. In 2019, she spoke emotionally about her experience, saying that her husband told her on their wedding night that he did not love her and had married her because she was pregnant.

The actress has since built a successful career in Nollywood while raising her children and has become an influential figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Her children have also attracted considerable public attention, particularly following Priscilla Ojo’s highly publicised relationship and marriage to Tanzanian singer Juma Jux.

The former couple publicly reunited during their daughter’s wedding celebrations in 2025, years after their separation.

Ojo has now indicated that she intends to tell more of her story through her forthcoming book and a cinema project, saying she hopes her experiences will help audiences understand where she is coming from.

She has also spoken positively about her current relationship with talent manager Paul “Paul O” Okoye, describing it as one built around maturity, mutual respect, understanding and personal space.

Her latest revelation has once again generated discussion about marriage, personal wellbeing, motherhood and the courage required to leave relationships that no longer provide peace or fulfilment.
