President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Akin Dare, as he clocks 60, describing him as a loyal ally and key figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
In a statement issued on May 28, 2026, the President commended Dare’s decades of service as a journalist, communications expert and public official, highlighting his role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his continued contributions to governance.
Tinubu recalled their close collaboration between 2013 and 2014, when they worked extensively to build alliances across Nigeria that eventually led to the creation of the APC. He noted that Dare demonstrated “dexterity, tenacity, industry and resilience” throughout the process.
The President also praised Dare’s performance in previous public roles, including as Chief of Staff and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, where he exhibited “leadership, innovative thinking and courage.” These qualities, Tinubu said, earned him further national responsibilities under former President Muhammadu Buhari, who appointed him Executive Commissioner at the Nigerian Communications Commission and later Minister of Youth and Sports Development.
Highlighting his current role, Tinubu said Dare has brought strong expertise in digital and new media to the administration’s communications strategy, strengthening engagement and public messaging.
Beyond public service, the President acknowledged Dare’s contributions to community development and family values, noting his national honour as Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and his traditional title as Agbaakin of Ogbomosoland in Oyo State.
Tinubu expressed appreciation for Dare’s “continuous, invaluable work” in the Renewed Hope Administration, thanking him for his partnership and commitment to the progressive movement.
He wished him good health, wisdom and many more years of service to the nation.
