Tinubu Drops Edun, Dangiwa in Minor Cabinet Reshuffle

President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of his cabinet, dropping Minister of Finance Wale Edun and Minister of Housing Ahmed Dangiwa in what officials described as a strategic move to recalibrate economic and housing policies.

The Presidency announced the changes late Tuesday, stating that the decision was part of ongoing efforts to “strengthen governance efficiency and accelerate delivery on priority sectors.” Replacements for both ministers are expected to be forwarded to the National Assembly for confirmation within days.

Sources within the administration said the reshuffle followed months of internal performance reviews amid mounting public concern over inflation, currency volatility, and slow progress in affordable housing delivery. While the statement did not explicitly cite underperformance, it emphasized the need for “renewed energy and innovative thinking” in key ministries.

Edun, a key architect of the administration’s economic reforms, oversaw policies including subsidy removal and fiscal restructuring. However, critics argue that the reforms have yet to translate into immediate relief for Nigerians grappling with rising living costs. Dangiwa, on his part, led initiatives aimed at boosting housing supply but faced challenges linked to funding gaps and bureaucratic delays.

Meanwhile, aides close to the outgoing ministers said both men had contributed significantly to policy direction and would continue to support national development in other capacities if called upon.
