Banky W

In a refreshing take on modern marriage, popular Nigerian singer and rapper Olubankole Wellington, better known as Banky W, has opened up about the domestic dynamics in his household.

The music star recently addressed the public’s curiosity regarding who handles the kitchen duties in his marriage to famous actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington.

The conversation was sparked after a video of Banky W preparing a meal of sausages, eggs, and bacon went viral. The clip quickly became a talking point across social media, with many fans and critics debating traditional gender roles and the expectation that a wife should be the primary cook in a Nigerian home.

Speaking on The Teju Babyface Show, Banky W was quick to clear the air, stating that their domestic arrangement is built on personal likes and dislikes rather than what society dictates. He revealed a simple truth: he genuinely enjoys being in the kitchen, while his wife does not.

“I do the cooking at home because cooking is not my wife’s thing,” Banky W explained during the interview. He was careful to note that Adesua is fully capable of cooking and actually does it very well; however, it is simply not something she finds joy in doing.

For the Wellingtons, the kitchen is a place of shared happiness rather than a source of friction. Banky W shared a lighthearted look at their dynamic:

“I love cooking. Like I enjoy cooking and I love eating and she loves eating. And it just means that if you come to our house, there are some people that will come and see me cooking and they’ll be like, ah, what’s going on? It will make some people uncomfortable but it works for us.”

He acknowledged that while their setup might surprise guests or traditionalists, the comfort and happiness of the partners involved should always come first.

Beyond his own kitchen, Banky W offered some heartfelt advice to other couples who might feel the weight of societal expectations. He stressed the importance of individual understanding and urged people to stop comparing their lives to others.

He concluded by saying that every marriage is unique and that couples should avoid living their lives based on the rules set by outsiders. According to the singer, the key to a healthy relationship is finding what works for the two people in it and sticking to that, regardless of how uncomfortable it might make the rest of the world.
