Tinubu Calls for Unity, Tolerance, Generosity at Eid-el-Kabir Prayers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace tolerance, generosity, and unity as they mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, stressing that national progress depends on peaceful coexistence.

Speaking after observing the Eid prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos on Wednesday, the President called on citizens to reject ethnic divisions and all forms of hatred that threaten the country’s stability. He described the festival as a powerful reminder of sacrifice, obedience, and love for humanity, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.

The President was joined at the prayers by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, among other dignitaries.

Tinubu emphasised that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity, noting that no ethnic, religious, or political differences should outweigh the collective goal of peace and development. He also urged citizens to support the less privileged and uphold the sanctity of human life, warning that violence and banditry have no place in any faith.

In his sermon, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, called on Muslims to uphold the values of unity, sacrifice, and generosity, while offering prayers for the nation’s peace and the President’s continued leadership.
