President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 elections, securing an overwhelming victory in the party’s nationwide primaries.
Official results released by the Presidential Primary Elections Committee show that the exercise was conducted across all 36 states, 744 local government areas, and 8,809 wards, with a total of 12,743,306 registered voters. Of this figure, 11,015,665 party members were accredited and participated in the voting process.
Tinubu polled a commanding 10,999,160 votes, defeating his challenger, Stanley Osifo, who secured 16,503 votes. The margin underscores Tinubu’s dominance within the ruling party and reflects broad-based support across the country.
The primaries recorded a high turnout, with participation cutting across the six geopolitical zones, indicating strong engagement among party members ahead of the general elections. Party officials described the process as largely peaceful, transparent, and reflective of internal democratic principles.
The committee noted that the collation of results from wards to local governments and states proceeded smoothly, culminating in the final nationwide tally announced at the party’s national collation centre.
Tinubu’s victory positions him as the APC’s standard-bearer as the party prepares to face opposition candidates in the 2027 presidential race. Political analysts say the scale of his win may strengthen his influence within the party while setting the tone for early campaign strategies.
Meanwhile, party leaders have called on members to unite behind the candidate, emphasizing the need for cohesion and mobilisation ahead of the national polls.
