Abia State Governor Alex Otti has announced that visible work on solar energy projects across the state will commence within 14 days as his administration intensifies efforts to improve electricity supply and reduce dependence on the national grid.

Otti said the planned projects were part of his administration’s broader strategy to provide sustainable and reliable electricity for communities, businesses and public institutions across Abia.

The governor stressed the importance of alternative energy sources in addressing the persistent electricity challenges facing residents and businesses in the state.

According to him, solar power would form an important component of the state’s energy strategy, particularly in areas where dependence on the national grid has continued to constrain economic activities.

He said the administration was committed to ensuring that investments in the power sector translated into visible improvements in the lives of residents.

Otti noted that reliable electricity was essential for industrial development, job creation, education, healthcare and the growth of small and medium-scale enterprises.

He said the state could not afford to wait indefinitely for improvements in the national electricity supply system before taking steps to address its own energy needs.

The governor’s announcement comes as governments and businesses across Nigeria increasingly explore solar and other alternative energy sources to address unreliable electricity supply.

For Abia, the move is also expected to support the state’s efforts to attract investors by improving the infrastructure needed for businesses to operate efficiently.

Otti said the projects would demonstrate his administration’s commitment to practical solutions rather than relying solely on policy pronouncements.

He explained that the planned deployment of solar infrastructure would help reduce pressure on the national grid while providing an alternative source of electricity for strategic locations.

The governor also linked improved electricity access to his administration’s broader economic development programme, arguing that sustained growth would require dependable infrastructure.

He said the government would continue to pursue partnerships and investments capable of expanding power generation and distribution across the state.

The projects are expected to become visible within the announced 14-day period, marking a significant step in Abia’s efforts to diversify its energy sources.

Otti assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise projects capable of delivering measurable benefits and improving living standards.

He said the ultimate objective was to establish a more dependable energy system capable of supporting Abia’s economic transformation and reducing the impact of national grid instability on residents.
