The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has displayed the names, credentials and personal particulars of 19 presidential candidates and their running mates ahead of the 2027 general elections, in line with the Electoral Act.
The electoral body confirmed that the documents, contained in Form EC9, were published on Saturday at its offices across the country to allow members of the public to scrutinise the information submitted by candidates seeking elective positions.
INEC said the move is part of its commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process, giving Nigerians the opportunity to verify claims made by aspirants and raise objections where necessary.
According to the commission, the publication enables citizens to examine academic qualifications, work history and other personal details provided by candidates before the elections. It added that any member of the public who identifies discrepancies or false information has the right to challenge such submissions in a court of law.

The display of Form EC9 is a statutory requirement under the Electoral Act, designed to promote openness and credibility in Nigeria’s democratic process. Observers say the process also helps political parties ensure that their candidates meet constitutional requirements before contesting.
INEC urged Nigerians to take advantage of the exercise by visiting its offices nationwide to review the documents within the stipulated period. It emphasised that public participation remains a critical part of strengthening electoral integrity.
The commission further reassured stakeholders of its readiness to conduct free, fair and credible elections in 2027, noting that all necessary steps are being taken to improve the process.
With the publication of candidates’ details, the race toward the 2027 presidential election formally enters a new phase, as scrutiny shifts from party primaries to public examination of those seeking the nation’s highest office.
