The United Arab Emirates UAE has intensified efforts to enhance logistics coordination and strengthen trade corridors with Nigeria, in a move aimed at improving cargo movement and deepening bilateral transport and trade relations.
The initiative was disclosed by the UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, during a high-level coordination meeting held in Dubai. The meeting, hosted by the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, brought together key players in the maritime and logistics sectors, including global shipping firms and industry associations.
Al Zeyoudi said the UAE is prioritising the strengthening of supply chain systems through improved coordination, advanced customs frameworks, and the development of alternative trade routes to ensure seamless cargo flows across regions.
He noted that efficient logistics and resilient supply chains are critical for countries like Nigeria, where maritime trade plays a central role in supporting key sectors such as energy, manufacturing, and agriculture.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, Abdulla bin Damithan, emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration among stakeholders to address disruptions affecting regional transport and trade networks.

On customs operations, Abdulla Busenad highlighted measures introduced to improve efficiency, including enhanced transit systems, adoption of flexible guarantees, and stakeholder engagement through workshops.
He added that new pilot programmes, such as the Advance Cargo Information system and expanded maritime feeder services linking the region with India, are expected to further boost trade connectivity and streamline cargo handling.
The development underscores growing transport and logistics cooperation between the UAE and Nigeria, with both countries seeking to strengthen supply chain resilience, expand trade routes, and improve the efficiency of cargo movement across international markets.
