Residents of Lagos State and road users across the metropolis have commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for what they described as transformative investments in the state’s transport sector during his seven years in office.
Many residents interviewed across Lagos Island, Mainland, Ikorodu, Okokomaiko, Badagry and Abule Egba identified the Blue and Red Rail Line projects as some of the governor’s most impactful achievements, noting that the rail services have significantly reduced traffic congestion and improved mobility within the state.
According to the residents, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system has eased pressure on major traffic corridors, including CMS, Eko Bridge, Orile, Mile 2, Oshodi, Agege and Alagbado, while providing commuters with a faster and more comfortable alternative to road transportation.
A resident of Okokomaiko, Mr. Ndubishi Okeke, described the Blue Line Rail from Marina to Mile 2 as a game changer for commuters, saying the service has reduced the daily burden of spending long hours in traffic.
“The rail service has encouraged many residents to leave their vehicles at home and commute by train, thereby reducing congestion on major roads,” he said.
Similarly, Mr. Adisa Olarewaju of Alagbado praised the Red Line Rail service linking Iddo and Alagbado, noting that it has improved connectivity and reduced travel time for residents of Ikeja, Agege and Alagbado.
The residents urged the state government to accelerate plans to extend rail services to Badagry, describing the expansion as critical to improving transportation access along the Lagos-Badagry corridor.
Beyond rail transportation, stakeholders also commended the administration’s efforts in traffic management through reforms at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) under the leadership of General Manager, Bakare Oki.

According to motorists and commercial transport operators, the agency has witnessed significant operational improvements, including the retraining of personnel, introduction of toll-free complaint lines, discontinuation of vehicle pursuits, and the elimination of practices considered unsafe for motorists.
Commercial bus operators said the reforms have improved relations between traffic officers and road users while contributing to smoother traffic management across the state.
The residents noted that the combination of rail infrastructure development and traffic management reforms has strengthened Lagos’ transportation system and enhanced the daily commuting experience of millions of residents.
They expressed optimism that ongoing investments in rail, road and traffic management infrastructure would further consolidate Lagos’ position as a leading transport hub in Nigeria.
