Super Eagles

Turkish Super Lig giants Trabzonspor have officially rebuffed a second, improved offer from English Premier League side Fulham for Super Eagles center-back, Chibuike Nwaiwu.

The Black Sea Storm remains adamant that the Nigerian international will not leave the club for anything below their strict valuation.

According to reports from Turkish sports outlet Fanatik, Fulham submitted a revised package worth approximately €28 million, structured as a guaranteed €25 million base fee accompanied by €3 million in performance-related add-ons.

Trabzonspor promptly dismissed the bid, standing firm on their demand for a final fee in the region of €30 million to €35 million. The London club had previously seen their opening offer of €20 million swiftly rejected last month.

Nwaiwu only arrived in Trabzon from Austrian outfit Wolfsberger AC in January, but he wasted no time cementing his status as an indispensable defensive anchor.

The 22-year-old was instrumental in guiding the club to a third-place finish in the Super Lig, securing UEFA Europa League qualification, and lifting the Turkish Cup in a spectacular half-season debut.

His commanding displays have naturally triggered a scramble across Europe’s top divisions. While West Ham United, Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen, and Leeds United are all actively monitoring his situation, Fulham has positioned the young defender as their absolute priority signing for the summer window.

If an agreement is eventually reached at Trabzonspor’s asking price, the deal would completely shatter the Turkish Super Lig’s outgoing transfer record, eclipsing the €30 million Brighton paid Fenerbahce for Ferdi Kadioglu in 2024.

Furthermore, the massive fee would elevate Nwaiwu to the status of the fourth most expensive Nigerian footballer in history.

For now, Trabzonspor holds all the leverage in the negotiations. The defender remains secured by a long-term contract and has not publicly agitated for a departure.

However, the Cottagers are widely expected to return to the negotiating table with a third, record-breaking proposal as they desperately seek to reinforce their backline ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
