Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has predicted that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, faces a difficult battle in Saturday’s governorship election, saying only a miracle or magic could prevent his defeat.

Sani attributed his prediction to what he described as divisions within the opposition camp, contrasting it with what he considers the unity and strength of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.

The former lawmaker made the comment on Thursday in a post on X, as political parties intensified their final mobilisation efforts ahead of the election.

Sani also pointed to the role of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, who is serving as Chairman of the APC National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election. He expressed confidence that Uzodinma’s leadership of the campaign would contribute significantly to the APC’s efforts to reclaim the state.

According to Sani, the political configuration in Osun favours the APC, particularly with the opposition divided ahead of the poll. He also argued that members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in the state have strong political roots in the APC.

Sani’s assessment comes amid intense competition between the major political parties seeking to win Saturday’s election.

The former senator’s remarks have added to the growing political predictions surrounding the poll, with parties and their supporters making competing claims about their chances of victory.

The APC has stepped up its campaign activities in the final days before voting, with national and state leaders rallying supporters and urging voters to support its candidate.

The party’s campaign has also focused on consolidating its political structure across the state and taking advantage of the support generated during its recent mega rally.

On the other hand, Adeleke and his supporters have continued to campaign for the governor’s re-election, highlighting the achievements of his administration and appealing to voters across the state.

The election is expected to attract considerable attention, given the political significance of Osun and the competition among the leading parties.

Sani’s prediction comes at a time when campaigns are winding down and attention is shifting towards voter mobilisation, election-day logistics and the conduct of the poll.

While the former senator expressed strong confidence in an APC victory, the final decision rests with voters who will cast their ballots on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is expected to oversee the election as the parties conclude preparations for what promises to be a closely watched governorship contest.
