The Traffic NG

Turnbull–Parkview

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to commence improvement works on the Turnbull–Parkview intersections along Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, from September 14, 2026, as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion and improve mobility in the area.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at Banana Island Estate, Ikoyi.

Osiyemi urged residents, businesses and other stakeholders to cooperate with the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation to ensure the project is delivered within schedule.

According to him, the junction improvement project is designed to address persistent traffic bottlenecks around the Turnbull–Parkview intersections and facilitate smoother movement of vehicles along the corridor.

He said the construction would last approximately six months, adding that the ministry would work with relevant stakeholders to protect existing infrastructure and utility services throughout the project.

“We will ensure that essential infrastructure and amenities, including electricity, water, fibre optic cables and other utilities, are not disrupted during the construction,” the Commissioner said.

Osiyemi said observations and concerns raised by residents and other stakeholders during the engagement would be reviewed before the contractor moves fully to site.

He also assured road users that a comprehensive traffic management plan would be implemented to reduce disruption during construction.

The Commissioner explained that construction activities would be scheduled mainly around off-peak periods in the morning and evening to minimise the impact on traffic flow.

He further disclosed that compensation arrangements had been made for cases where the project’s right-of-way affects private properties or results in encroachment.

Providing technical details of the project, the Director of Transport Engineering in the Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Bolaji Bada, said the two intersections connect to major roads and regularly experience congestion, particularly during peak periods.

Bada said the intervention would improve the efficiency of the intersections, eliminate existing bottlenecks and create a freer flow of traffic within the Ikoyi axis.

Speaking on behalf of residents, the Chairman of Parkview Estate, Mrs. Ronke Shokefun, expressed concern over traffic congestion in the area and urged the ministry to maintain continuous engagement with residents and other stakeholders throughout the construction period.

The Chairman of Banana Island Estate, Mr. Shonaiki Abidemi, commended the state government for the planned intervention, saying the project would contribute to improved traffic flow in the area.

He called on residents to support the project and cooperate with the government and contractors during the construction period.

Stakeholders at the meeting included representatives of the project contractor, Infrapoint Concept Limited, led by Mr. Folorunsho Owolabi; Julius Berger; the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation; telecommunications companies; Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK); Lagos State Water Corporation; and other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The state government said the stakeholder engagement was part of efforts to ensure that the project proceeds with minimal disruption to residents, businesses, utilities and road users.
