The Rivers State Police Command has removed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abuloma and the officer in charge of the Abuloma Police Outpost from their duties following reports linking suspected cultists to the renovation of the facility.
The command announced the development after a social media report and accompanying video allegedly showed that suspected cultists renovated the police outpost and visited the facility on October 15, 2026, to celebrate the project.
The police said investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the renovation, including the identities of those who financed the work and whether any police officers authorised or facilitated the project.
The removal of the two officers is part of the command’s response to the allegations while inquiries continue into the incident.
The development has raised concerns about the relationship between security personnel and individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities, particularly where public security facilities are concerned.
Police outposts are established to support law enforcement operations, protect residents and respond to security threats within their areas of responsibility. Any alleged involvement of suspected criminal groups in renovating such facilities therefore raises questions about transparency, accountability and operational independence.
However, the allegations surrounding the Abuloma outpost have not yet been conclusively established, and the investigation is expected to determine how the renovation was initiated, who provided the funds and whether the actions of any individuals violated the law.
The command said appropriate disciplinary measures or prosecution would follow if investigators established that any person had committed an offence.
The investigation is also expected to clarify whether the officers removed from duty had prior knowledge of the renovation, participated in its approval or failed to follow established procedures.
The police have not publicly identified the individuals who allegedly funded the project or provided further details about the cost and scope of the renovation.
The incident comes amid continuing efforts by security agencies to address cult-related violence and other criminal activities in parts of Rivers State. Cult-related groups have been associated with violent confrontations, intimidation and other security challenges in some communities across the state.
The allegations have consequently drawn attention to the need for strict oversight of public security infrastructure and clear procedures governing donations, renovations and other forms of assistance involving police facilities.

While the removal of the two officers does not establish wrongdoing on their part, the outcome of the investigation could determine whether they or any other individuals face disciplinary action or criminal charges.
The Rivers State Police Command has indicated that further action will depend on the evidence gathered and the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
TheTraffic.NG will continue to monitor the case as more verified information becomes available.
